Position Overview: The Cities of Kitchener and Waterloo are committed to the inclusion of children and youth with disabilities in municipal summer recreation programs. Through the Every Kid Counts program, children and youth with physical, developmental and/or emotional/behavioural needs receive support from inclusion support workers to assist with their participation at municipal summer recreation programs. As an Inclusion Support Coordinator (Summer), it is your mission to ensure that all children enjoy their camp experience! You will oversee numerous support placements across Kitchener and Waterloo, ensuring that your team is equipped with the information, skills, and supplies that they need to provide the unique support required. Responsibilities: - Assists with the coordination of the “Every Kid Counts” program a service for children and youth with physical, developmental and or emotional/behavioural disabilities following established procedures and accommodation plans.
- Visits program sites to monitor program activities and ensures inclusion of children and youth with disabilities in programs.
- Acts as a resource person for several camp teams regarding inclusion issues, provides support as needed
- Assists with the support worker/participant placement process
- Assists with the preparation and implementation of the inclusion support workers training program.
- Ensures program policies and procedures are followed.
- Prepares for and leads weekly team meetings
- Fosters positive relationships with parents/caregivers, communicating and providing feedback on their child’s accommodation plan as needed.
- Ensures proper record keeping of information, completes forms and prepares reports and evaluations as required
- Actively develops, supports, and motivates 40+ inclusion workers
- Provides staff support; gives feedback and addresses minor issues related to staff performance
- Provides behaviour management and strategies.
- Administers authorized medication to participants, noting details on appropriate forms.
- Acts as a backup to inclusion support workers. Assists program participants with physical assistance and personal hygiene as required.
- Provides first aid as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements: - Minimum Grade 12 diploma plus up to 1 year of additional job related post-secondary education
- 12 months of related and relevant experience including an on-the-job period of adjustment
- Experience supporting and working with children and youth with disabilities, preferably in a recreational setting
- Experience supporting staff, including coaching, training development and mentoring
- Experience in program coordination
- City of Kitchener approved behaviour management certification (NVCI) post-hire
- Valid CPR Level "C" and Standard First Aid Certificate
- Ability to provide a satisfactory Police Reference Check (Vulnerable Sector) issued after March 1 2025 upon conditional offer
- Class G driver’s license and access to a vehicle for the full duration of employment
- Must be reliable with a good attitude and employment record
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities - Knowledge of inclusive support, adaptation, and modification techniques in a leisure/recreation setting.
- General knowledge of disabilities.
- General knowledge of crisis prevention and intervention strategies with the ability to identify behavioural issues and respond using preventive and de-escalation techniques.
- Working knowledge of physical, social, intellectual, emotional, and behavioural stages.
- Working knowledge of equipment modifications.
- Communication and interpersonal skills to support Inclusion Support Workers.
- Skill in the use of a personal computer with ability to use Microsoft Office.
- Ability to aid Inclusion Support Workers and deal effectively with issues.
- Ability to follow written instructions, work independently, and exercise good judgment.
- Ability to work with participants of all ages, including children, youth, adults, and seniors.
- Ability to assist participants with personal care.
- Ability to respond calmly and appropriately as part of a team to emergency health concerns.
- In some cases, ability to provide support to Inclusion Support Workers within various recreation settings (e.g., a pool or golf course).
- Ability to support and project values compatible with the organization and participate as an effective team member.
Working Conditions: - Summer Inclusion Coordinators work in a noisy and busy camp environment and are often required to travel between various sites.
- Office location to be determined.
- Camp locations vary, with some having a large outdoor and/or swimming component. Summer Inclusion Coordinators are required to step in to support in these various environments.
- May be exposed to body fluids and waste when assisting participants with personal care
- May be required to work with participants with physical aggression
- Performs work in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Physical Requirements: - Ability to lift 35 pounds unassisted.
- Ability to swim/provide support in the water.
- It is recommended that vaccinations (Tdap, MMR, chickenpox, Hepatitis B) are updated and current for the period of employment.
Anticipated Employment Dates: May 12, 2025 –August 29, 2025 (start and end dates to be confirmed) Hours a week: 35-40 hours/week (28 hours/week in May) Hours of work: 8:30 am – 4:30 pm or 9 am – 5 pm (hours vary) Wage range: $22.509-$28.136 (2024 rate) - Statutory holidays will be observed on July 1 and August 4
- Some evening and weekend work required (Weekly Tuesday Night Meetings 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm)
